המאמר מבקש לברר, האם חלוקת המחקר על התפתחות הציונות על פי פרמטר אזורי מוצדקת, והאם ניתן להכליל ולאפיין את הפעילות הציונית בכל הקהילות היהודיות באסיה ובאפריקה כפעילות שנבעה מעמדה משיחית ומקשר דתי לארץ ישראל.
