Abstract
Discusses Peter the Venerable’s polemical works against the Petrobrusian heretics, the Saracens, and the Jews in order to determine the probable date of the latter. Aided by analysis of the text of his "Contra Judaeos," and letters written by and to Peter, determines that the first three chapters and the first part of the fourth of his "Contra Judaeos" were completed by 1144. But chapter five is harsher and more aggressive, with a virulent attack on the Talmud, possibly due to the prevailing atmosphere on the eve of the Second Crusade in 1146-47.
