Abstract

In two sisters with severe dyspareunia, human papillomavirus (HPV) associated vulvar vestibulitis was diagnosed. One patient was treated by intramuscular injections of interferon-beta to a total dose of 45 million international units. The other by perineoplasty. The bioptic/surgical specimens revealed koilocytotic changes in the former and HPV-DNA (by dot blot hybridization) in the latter. Both patients resulted to be cured by therapies. The possibility of a familial occurrence of vestibulitis is discussed in addition to other pathogenetic hypotheses.
