Abstract

Communication: Discotic mesogens with C3 symmetry (see figure) are shown to form the basis of a chemically stable low‐temperature model for the carbonaceous mesophase, a key intermediate in the production of coke and graphite via the carbonization of organic precursors. The synthesis and properties are reported. (Figure Presented.)
