Abstract

The Laplace transform method was used to obtain exact solutions for the thermal decay of a metastable state for two different forms of potential. The exact inverse Laplace transforms were found for a symmetric case and the results were compared with the Kramers rate. The Focker-Planck equation was solved exactly for two types of metastable states, characterized by asymptotic partial decay.
