Abstract

The temperature dependence near the α-β phase transition of the Raman spectra line widths of the two lowest A1 lines of crystalline quartz was studied. The line width of the soft mode changes with temperature according to the theory of Tani for the damping constant of soft modes of displactive ferroelectrics.
