Abstract

XAFS measurements over a temperature range of 200-900 K are presented for pure Ag and for the minority components in the alloys GaxAg1-x, and AuxAg1-x for x = 0.05. Detailed information about the temperature dependence of the radial distribution function for the near-neighbor distance is found by assuming a one-dimensional anharmonic potential of the form V(r) = 1 2ar2 + br3 + cr4 for the interatomic bond. The force constants a, b, and c of this potential are determined for each bond, and are shown to give unique thermodynamic information about the systems.
