Abstract

The aim of the article is to provide an overview of the state of Japanese law studies in Europe (in the broad sense). The article is divided into eight country reports, each written by an expert in Japanese law from the country in question. The current situation in Italy, France, Israel, Scandinavia, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Germany is analyzed. A very different picture emerges with regard to the interest and commitment in teaching, research and practice of Japanese law. In some countries, the study of Japanese law is integrated into Japanese studies, in others it is anchored in general comparative law or, more specifically, part of studies on East Asian law.
