The Search for Scrolls in the Judaean Desert Caves in the Years 1950-1960 - An Archaeological Memoir

Few know about the early days of the 1950s when scrolls were being sought in the Judaean Desert caves. Given the publication of Hanan Eshel and Roi Porat's second volume revealing the results of this work, I would like to attempt to provide a history of research. In this short paper I will be presenting you with information about the years that preceded this important expedition: the background and the figures that led to the activities in the desert caves.
