The role of the local magnetic mode in the optical absorption spectra of antiferromagnets

Abstract

The anomaly in the temperature dependence of the magnetic linear dichroism in a weak ferromagnet FeBO3 has been revealed at T<TN. It is explained by the condensation of the local magnetic,ode associated with the absorption of a light quantum by the pair of neighboring ions from the different sublattices of the antiferromagnet. It is shown that the same phenomenon leads to the appearance of the additional lines in the optical absorption spectra of antiferromagnets.
