Abstract
The evidence for the presence of the Arabian oryx (Oryx leucoryx Pallas, 1777) in archaeological sites in the southern Levant is discussed in the light of a new find of an oryx horncore during recent excavations at Tel Nov in the Golan Heights. This material is discussed in relation to information on the past biogeography of this species in the southern Levant, as derived from records of early travelers and naturalists, archaeozoology and rock art.
