Abstract
The single electron reduction of the complex [P8W 48O184Fe16(OH)28(H 2O)4]20- by the hydrated electron yields the mixed-valence complex [P8W48O184Fe IIFeIII15(OH)28-(H 2O)4]21- which has an intervalence charge transfer band in the near I.R. This result points out that there is a strong interaction between the iron centres. The formation of [P8W 48O184FeIIFeIII15-(OH) 28(H2O)4]21- is followed by the loss of the FeII centre and the rearrangement of the remaining Fe 15III cluster.
