Abstract
This essay examines the mistrust of the Mediterranean in eastern Mediterranean thought. The Annual Congresses of the Mediterranean Studies Association offer opportunities to confront this mistrust and to transform it into a catalyst for building trust between scholars from Israel and those from other countries in the region.
