N2 - The first high-resolution measurement of a satellite line in tungsten, Lα′, is presented. The peak energy is (8413.3±0.4) eV and the satellite intensity is (3.0±0.6) × 10-3 of that of the diagram Lα1,2 spectrum. The line shape is also determined. Evidence is presented to demonstrate that the original assignment of this line to the M3 spectator hole transition 2p3/23p3/2 → 3p3/23d5/2 may have to be revised to that of the M5 spectator transition 2p33d5/2 → (3d5/2)2.
