Abstract

The kinetics of Cd18Cu6 intermetallic growth in two-layer Cd-Cu samples was studied under hydrostatic pressures 0.05 and 0.9 GPa in the temperature range 200-280°C. Arrhenius equations for both the interdiffusion through growing phase layer and the interfacial reaction were obtained for different pressures. The activation volumes were found as V0 for interdiffusion and 2.8V0 for interfacial reaction (V0≈2.08·10-29 m3 is the average volume per atom in Cd18Cu6 lattice). Atomic mechanisms of the phase growth are discussed.
