Abstract

The X-ray K alpha single 2l spectator vacancy satellite spectrum of sodium was studied by non-relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations in intermediate coupling. All observed satellites are assigned to within about 1 eV to 2p spectator hole transitions, with a small possible contribution to the alpha 4 line from the strongest 2s spectator hole ones. The identification of the recently discovered, and hitherto unassigned, C1 line is discussed and the assignment of the C1- alpha ' structure to the (1s2p)-1 1P, 3P to (2p)-2 1S, 1D complex is suggested.
