Abstract
The electrochemical behaviour of PhTeTePh and (C4H3O)TeTe(C4H3O) in methylene chloride containing tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) as supporting were studied. In order to elucidate the electrode reactions linear potential scan, cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry were employed using a platinum electrode. The disappearance of the ditelluride in the course of the coulometric experiments was followed by measuring the limiting current of the voltammetric waves at rde and by uv spectrometry. It was found that PhTeTePh is electro-oxidized to PhTe(ClO4)3 in the presence of ClO-4 ions, while (C4H3O)TeTe(C4H3O) can be oxidized to (C4H3O)2Te(ClO4)2 and elemental tellurium. The reduction of the diphenyl ditelluride to diphenyltelluride takes place at more cathodic potentials than that of the difuryl ditelluride to difuryltelluride.
