Abstract

The electrochemical behaviour of tellurides, diorganyltellurium dichlorides and diperchlorates in methylene chloride or acetonitrile containing tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) or lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) has been studied. Various electrochemical techniques such as linear potential scan, cyclic voltammetry, controlled potential coulometry and a simultaneous coulometry-esr spectroscopy were applied. It was found that the dichlorides and the diperchlorates can be electrochemically reduced to the corresponding tellurides in an electron-transfer reaction preceding a disproportionation and vice versa.
