Abstract

We have studied the crystal structure and magnetic susceptibility of high Tc single phase RBa2-xKxCu3O7-δ, where x=0 to 1 and R=Y, Eu. All the YBa2-xKxCu3O7-δ samples have the same orthorhombic crystal structure and are superconducting with almost the same Tc. In EuBa2-xKxCu3O7 the crystal structure changes from orthorhombic to tetragonal and a progressive decrease in Tc is observed when x is increased. EuBaKCu3O7-δ is not superconducting. The decrease in the cation charge reduces both the oxygen concentration and the average valency of the copper.
