Abstract
The theme of the 2016 Religious Education Association (REA) Annual Meeting, “Generating Hope: The Future of the Teaching Profession in a Globalized World,” focuses on the importance of teachers of religion in, to use a modest phrase, changing the world. This has perhaps never been as pressing a topic as it is today. Religion is taught in schools, in houses of worship, in informal educational forums, and in the family, among other settings. In this article my remarks will generally address the school context, although some points can be extrapolated to non-school settings.
