The concepts of death and circumcision in the writings of Ignatius of Antioch and in the Mishnah intersecting perspectives

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The aim of this article is to examine a passage from the Letter to the Philadelphians and to conduct a comparative analysis with the text from the Mishnah Pesahim 8:8. Our investigation will be mainly historical but will also take into consideration the literary aspects common to Ignatius and the Mishnah. The originality of our study consists in identifying and analyzing the analogous elements of the two distinct religious traditions: Judaism and Christianity of the second century. What are the affinities of thought between Ignatius of Antioch and the redactors of Pesahim, keeping in mind the proximity not only in time but in place?.
