"Tav lemeitav tan du mi-lemeitav armalu": an analysis of the presumption

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

Discusses rabbinical views regarding the phrase in Bava Qamma 110b-111a, "better to dwell as two than to dwell alone", which has aroused debates on the issue of "kiddushei ta'ut" - voiding a marriage on the grounds of error. Examines this issue in regard to rabbinical attitudes toward women who request annulment of their marriage. Throughout centuries, the rabbis presumed that women prefer to be married rather than to live alone. This view has changed in recent years.
