Abstract
This study examines the operability of search engines in handling German queries. Common search engines were developed for the English language. The German language is linguistically more complex than English and this may have an impact on the quality of search results. Global as well as local search machines were tested. Comparison with former studies and studies in different languages shows that search engines have increasingly been equipped with means to handle German language queries.
