Abstract
This study examines the only learner's dictionary of Modern Hebrew, comparing it
with five monolingual and four bilingual (advanced) learner's dictionaries of
English known for their high quality, and proposes improvements to this and any
future learner's dictionaries of Modern Hebrew. The proposed improvements are
for reception (in data sources, cross-references, and senses), both reception and
production (in the frequency ranking of headwords, spelling, pronunciation,
inflection, syntax, and cultural information), and production (in word formation,
semantic relationships, collocations, usage notes, and pragmatic information).
