Abstract

The concentration and the temperature dependence of surface freezing in alkaline solutions was studied in order to determine the relation between the bulk and surface phase diagrams. Both surface tension and surface specific synchrotron x-ray techniques were used. The x-ray measurements showed no structural phase transitions in the surface frozen layer over the full temperature and concentration ranges. Thermodynamic model based on the theory explained the bulk behaviour and the dependence of dissolution line.
