Abstract

Photolysis of cyclopropyl azides results in high yields of nitrile and olefin derived from fragmentation of the cyclopropane ring in contrast to their thermal decomposition which leads to 1-azetine and/or fragmentation; both the photochemical and the thermal fragmentation are stereospecific.
