Abstract
The Israeli parliament took these sociological and anthropological population issues into account when debating the National Education Bill (Ministry of Education, 1994), according to which state education would be divided into three parallel and separate Jewish educational sectors, namely state secular education, state religious education and ultra-orthodox education, as well as providing one sector each for the Arab and Druze-Circassian minorities. All sectors are subject to the rules and regulations of the national Ministry of Education and a common national curriculum was prescribed, but autonomy was granted to all sectors in implementation of the curriculum, especially regarding the inclusion of content matter dealing with religious, secular, cultural and historical viewpoints to be addressed by the school system.
