Abstract

We address a passive sunlight concentration system containing optical waveguides that connect the optical module with the photovoltaic (PV) cells. We propose to realize pseudorandom structures along the interface between the core and the cladding of the optical waveguide such that different spectral components of the collected sunlight's radiation will be spatially separated. Different types of PV cells with engineered bandgaps are used for each such spatial region and, by that, improve the energetic efficiency at which the photons are converted into electrons.
