Sol-gel based dye laser stability under pulsed laser excitation

Abstract

The measurements of sol-gel based dye laser photostability were performed under pulsed laser excitation. Two dyes, rhodamine 6G and PM597 were tested in three different solid hosts namely composite glass/polymer, sol-gel glass, and PMMA. PM597 exhibited a faster rate of photobleaching than the rhodamine 6G in all the experiments. It was also found that the photobleaching measured during laser operation was consistently lower than the photobleaching observed with the mirrors blocked.
