Abstract

The following discussion will introduce and defend the view that sof hora'ah does indeed denote the end of Amoraic teaching — but rather than marking the point at which the Talmudic edifice reached its final form, sof hora'ah, in the sense we believe is intended in bBava Meẓia 86 a, means the time when the primary building blocks of that edifice — the concise, Amoraic legal dicta called memrot or oqimtot — ceased to be produced as such.
