Abstract

The interaction between size specific negative clusters (C_n ^-, 1 < n < 12, Ag_n^-, 1 < n < 11) and low-energy electrons has been studied using a new experimental setup where the ionic clusters are first cooled to room temperature in an electrostatic ion trap. The electron impact detachment cross-sections were measured for electron energies between 5 and 30 eV. The results are analysed in terms of a classical model.
