Abstract
The reaction of 3-methyl-3-hydroxy-2-butanone (an α-hydroxyketone) with dimethyl-dichlorosilane gave 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-5-methylene-1,3,2-dioxasilolane. The silylation of β-hydroxyketones leads to acyclic mono- and bis(γ-ketoalkoxy)silanes.
