Abstract

The role of strong localization in the lasing action process in active random media was analyzed. A numerical model was used to describe the full dynamics of the field and the levels' populations in two dimensional active random media. The lasing modes were found to be identical to the passive modes without gain by coupling the Maxwell's equations in a disordered medium with the rate equations of a four level atomic system.
