Seeing is Believing? Reflections on Teaching the Holocaust Through Film

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this essay, I explore the role of visual media in creating the history of events and focus on my personal experiences of teaching Holocaust through film in Israel for over three decades. I explore my choice of films, discuss various difficulties that are encountered when using film in the classroom, and explain the use of film in the intergenerational transference of trauma. I end my essay with a number of concluding thoughts and suggestions to those using films in their classroom to teach about the Holocaust.
