Abstract

A significant review associated with the work of Yakov Evseevich Geguzin in the field of science is discussed. He was a scientist, founder of the Kharkov scientific school of crystal physics, a professor at the Kharkov University, head of the crystal physics faculty, a lecturer, and teacher. Geguzin opened a new scientific area in 1950s-1960s, which was termed as real crystal physics. Geguzin established a new faculty at the Physics Department of the Kharkov University 'Crystal Physics Faculty' in 1964, which became an active research center of real crystal physics. This field of physics was aimed to explore single crystals and polycrystalline materials with high-dense structural defects. Geguzin also made significant efforts to examine the diffusion and diffusion mass transfer in crystal body and on crystal surface. His monograph 'Physics of Sintering' published in 1967 provided various ideas and physical processes for fundamental and applied solid-state physics.
