Abstract

This book focuses on on the usage of gamma radiation detection arrays as part of nuclear medicine imaging systems. The chapter reviews the operation principles of various detection configurations as well as the resolution limiting factors of the pixilated gamma radiation detection arrays. Then, various techniques for overcoming the geometrical resolution limitation that is being imposed by the pixilated detector, are explained. The implementation and the applicability of the proposed geometrical resolution enhancement approaches for nuclear medical imaging in general are presented.
