Abstract

Fiber reinforced composites have attracted significant interest in structural engineering due to their mechanical properties, durability, very good strength-to-weight ratio and remarkable resistance to environmental degradation. In the last few years, various trends have emerged in the advancement and application of these materials, as researchers and engineers seek to improve their properties and enhance their performance. It has been found that the fibers (carbon, glass, basalt, natural fibers, etc.), the matrices and their combination is the key to get the desired properties. Smart composites with nanofillers, 3D and 4D printing technologies of fiber reinforced composites, sustainable composites and hybrid composites have been investigated in this research and the latest trends have been illustrated.
