Abstract
The taxonomic history of the planktonic foraminifera Biticinella breggiensis (GANDOLFI, 1942) is reviewed. The successive descriptions of this biostratigraphic marker of the late Albian show a lack of agreement concerning the presence and interpretation of its non-primary apertures. Therefore a detailed description of the species is provided with special emphasis on its apertural system. We show that secondary and relict apertures are present on both sides of the test.
