Abstract
The oxygen content of YBa2Cu3O7-x can be reduced at room temperature using a liquid electrolyte. The degree of reduction can be controlled by coulometry. The products have been characterized structurally, magnetically and electrically. Reduction broadens the transition to the superconducting state. Two distinct superconducting phases are observed only upon annealing at 300°C. Thus while reduction alone affects the Tc, the distinct lower Tc phase is a result of ordering on the oxygen sublattice.
