Abstract

© 2010 Proceedings of the International Conference on Speech Prosody. The mechanisms underlying vocal emotion recognition (VER) have been the subject of extensive research in the last decades. Evidence supporting a linkage between the level of musical background and vocal emotion recognition abilities was indicated in several studies, while others pointed to a linkage between Theory of Mind/emotional intelligence and VER. In the current paper we highlight pitch discrimination abilities as successful predictors of VER. Our results may have a significant impact on the assessment and rehabilitation of individuals suffering from deficient VER.
