Psi and altered states of consciousness: The "missing" link

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Discusses the problem of reconciling the notion of a psi-conducive state with the empirical finding of psi-missing (i.e., smaller than expected success rates in psi experiments). It is suggested that part of the problem concerns methodological issues; there is a need to ascertain whether an altered state of consciousness (ASC) has been successfully induced in the S within the experimental setting, to use nonvolunteer Ss, and to use neutral instructions. It is hypothesized that psi-missing may be related to the incidence of hypnagogic imagery that occurs when one is exposed to an ASC-induction procedure.
