Abstract
It is a great challenge in pharmaceutical drug development to improve aqueous solubility of drugs. Griseofulvin (GF) is an antifungal drug having poor water solubility. Here we report the preparation of ultrafine Polyvinyl alcohol stabilized Griseofulvin nanoparticles (GF-PVA) by evaporation assisted solvent-antisolvent interaction (EASAI) method. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was used as a stabilizer to control the growth of nanoparticles and its morphology. Concentration of PVA that is required to obtain nanoparticles with particles size below 30 nm was optimized. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) imaging revealed that the average particle size of the prepared GF-PVA nanoparticles was less than 30 nm. There was no evidence of drug-stabilizer interaction in the FTIR spectrum. X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the GF was in its polymorphic form-I in the GF-PVA nanoparticles.
