Bibliographical noteFunding Information:
This book, however, is an expanded result both of that panel, and of our conviction that lbn Qayyim al-Gawziyyah's legacy stands on its own merits and deserves to be studied. The book is a part of two research projects, which both of us conduct separately: Caterina Bori's project, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, is entitled "Islamic Pathways to Reform: the Reception of lbn Taymiyyah between the xvi and xviii centuries"; Livnat Holtzman's project, funded by the Israel Science Foundation, is entitled "Practical Aspects in the Theological Thought oflbn Qayyim al-Jawziyya".
LIVNAT HOLTZMAN is a Lecturer in the Department of Arabic at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. In 2006, she was awarded a research grant from the Israel Science Foundation (grant no. 302/06), and ever since she has been researching the writings of Ibn Qayyim al-Gawziyyah. Her current research also focuses on didactic poetry in the Mamluk era, and she is writing a book on that subject. She published several articles on Ibn Qayyim al-Gawziyyah, and also contributed the entries «Af:imad ibn J:lanbal» and «Anthropomorphism» to The Encydopaedia of Islam, third edition.
