Abstract
The use of a detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) to investigate power-law persistence in temperature records of 95 stations was analyzed. The persistence was characterized by the correlation of temperature variations. The decays in the temperature persistence by a power law after a crossover time was observed with an exponent, which had a very narrow distribution for continental stations. Indications for global warming of the atmosphere were not found in majority of stations.
