Abstract

Methods to determine time-current characteristics of conductors to be used in coordination studies related to protective devices were studied. Students were involved in developing programs to convert American Wire gage (AWG) to metric system as well as in use of Mathcad to reach numerical solutions. An adiabatic process of conductor heating was assumed. Thermal stability calculations involve solving for conductors' temperature at the end of the fault clearing process.
