Abstract

A new type of heavy fermions in the layered structure is theoretically predicted. In the Bi-Ca-Sr-Cu-O systems plane polarons exists in the layers between the copper-oxygen sheets. Some of the characteristic frequencies of the polaron system are very high due to the small effective mass of the polarons. The electron transition between the copper-oxygen sheets under interaction with the polaron oscillation leads to the high temperature superconductivity. The isotopic effect in this system is strongly suppressed.
