Abstract

Accurate and precise measurements of physico-mechanical quantities, such as Force, Torque, Hardness, Pressure, Vacuum and Fluid Flow are extremely important and crucial in the several manufacturing and process industries as well as for advancements in R&D for technological developments. Realization and dissemination of measurements of these parameters are very important for the growth of the industries and the quality of the products/services rendered by these industries. CSIR-NPL, being the NMI of the country, is responsible and instrumental for realizing these physical quantities and disseminating the measurement scale to industries, test laboratories for maintaining the harmony in measurements and give a boost to the front-line R&D measurements. This chapter comprising of three broad sections and relevant subsections detailing about the standards, state of the art measurement facilities, realization of parameters, CMCs, key comparisons, consultancies, trainings, academic services and technologies developed.
