Abstract

A study was performed on the persistence length of a single, strongly charged rodlike polyelectrolyte in the presence of salt. The partition function was calculated using the loop expansion method, taking into account the corrections to the mean-field theory. It was found that beyond the mean field, the density correlations between counterions and thermal fluctuations reduced the stiffness of the chain.
