Abstract

"Queer Judaism: LGBT Activism and the Remaking of Jewish Orthodoxy in Israel" by Orit Avishai is a comprehensive book that explores the experiences of Jewish Orthodox gay individuals in Israel. Avishai conducted extensive field research, including interviews with various stakeholders such as activists, educators, and rabbis. The book highlights the transformation within Orthodox society, where homosexuality and religiosity were once seen as incompatible, but now there is a growing acceptance of LGBTQ individuals within the community. Avishai also examines the role of religion in the construction of Orthodox LGBTQ identity and the challenges faced by this movement. The book concludes by discussing the impact of this movement on redefining Orthodox and queer identities
