Funding Information:In investigation of possible serconversions, it is easy to overlook sources of passive antibody transfer, as shown in a report of cytomegalovirus immunoglobulin that also contained antibody to HCV.6 Unpooled blood components and lower purity clotting factor concentrates within 6-8 months should also be considered before necessarily attributing detectable antibody to previous or recent infection. Passively induced anti-HAV could not account for the reported European clusters of HAV infection because essentially all cases were clinically ill and icteric, and were seropositive for anti-HAV-IgM. We are reassured about the safety of solvent/ detergent-processed clotting factor concentrates, with respect to HAV, that are available in the USA. Supported by contracts no NOI-HB-4-7003 and 9-7074 of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, USA.
